PAO REVISION

TEACHER GUIDE

Using Pao Revision

A practical introduction to classes, revision, assignments, assessment, simulations and student insights.

INTRODUCTION

What the website can do

Pao Revision combines independent revision with teacher-managed classroom activity. Students can track confidence against syllabus statements, practise with an AI tutor, build terminology flashcards and review their progress. Teachers can organise classes, set assignments, run peer assessment, collect simulation responses and examine class evidence.

RevisionConfidence tracking, adaptive practice, terminology mastery and course-specific tutors.
Classroom activityTimed writing, homework, document submission, peer assessment and simulations.
FeedbackPeer, self, AI and teacher assessment can be enabled independently.
EvidenceReview student responses, practice, confidence, reflections and class misconceptions.

QUICK START

Set up your first class and assignment

  1. 1
    Create a class

Open Classes, enter its name, course and level, then save it.

  2. 2
    Invite students

Share the joining code or invitation link. Students sign in, select Join class and enter the code.

  3. 3
    Check membership

Open Class members to confirm that everyone has joined before setting work.

  4. 4
    Create an assignment

Open Assignments and choose peer assessment, homework submission or a simulation exercise.

  5. 5
    Run and review it

Monitor the live stage, release feedback when appropriate and examine responses and class insights afterwards.

CLASSES

Organise students and courses

Each class belongs to a course and level. This determines which students receive its assignments and helps keep teacher data separated.

INDEPENDENT LEARNING

Student revision tools

Course pages give students access to syllabus confidence ratings, targeted revision, Socratic tutoring, quizzes, terminology mastery and saved flashcard decks. Year 9 students also have structured essay practice; IB Biology and SEHS students have an IA tutor; and Philosophy students have an Argument Lab, AO-based essay practice and a stimulus-analysis IA tutor.

Teachers do not need to choose a course when signing in. Open a course only when you want to preview the student experience.

ASSIGNMENTS

Choose the right activity type

Peer-assessed workStudents submit work, assess allocated responses and receive selected feedback sources.
Homework submissionCollect typed answers or uploaded documents without requiring peer review.
Simulation exerciseLink or embed an interactive resource and retain student responses or results.
Timed assessmentAdd a writing timer to the submission stage. The timer ends once work is submitted.

Assignments can be edited, duplicated, archived or deleted. Peer, self, AI, teacher feedback and reflection are optional and should be selected according to the purpose of the task.

PEER ASSESSMENT

Quick classroom workflow

  1. 1
    Create the task

Add each question, its maximum mark and its own typed or attached mark scheme. Choose the number of reviews and optional feedback routes.

  2. 2
    Open the waiting room

Students join before the task begins. Start the writing stage when the class is ready.

  3. 3
    Collect submissions

Students type directly or upload a PDF, Word document or image of handwritten work, then select Submit and finish.

  4. 4
    Begin peer assessment

The system allocates anonymous work automatically. Students award question marks, identify achieved points and give specific feedback.

  5. 5
    Release feedback

Check completion, prepare AI assessment if enabled, then release the selected feedback sources.

  6. 6
    Close and review

Add teacher marking where enabled, review reflections and generate class insights.

MARKING AND FEEDBACK

Combine evidence without duplicating it

SIMULATIONS

Set interactive work for a class

Create a simulation assignment from the Assignments page. You can select a built-in simulation, add an external link, write instructions and include follow-up questions. Student interaction data and submitted answers appear in the assignment results.

The IB Biology course includes the stage-micrometer simulation. It records calibration, measurements, accuracy, attempts and reflection responses.

STUDENT DATA

Interpret confidence alongside performance

The teacher data area shows confidence ratings and statements needing support. Assignment results add student responses, peer and self-assessment, AI or teacher marks and reflections. Class insights can identify:

QUICK HELP

Common issues

A student cannot see an assignment

Confirm that the student joined the correct class, that the assignment belongs to that class and that it is no longer a draft.

Students are waiting at different stages

Open the assignment and inspect individual progress. You can move the whole class or a specific student to the next stage.

AI feedback is missing

Confirm that AI assessment was enabled, every response has a readable mark scheme and all submissions have been prepared before releasing feedback. Retry an individual response where necessary.

An uploaded document will not preview

PDF and image files can be embedded. Word files may need to be opened or downloaded, depending on browser support.

Students cannot see feedback

Check that the assignment has reached the feedback stage and that the relevant feedback source is enabled for students.
